Currently two specially tuned versions of the 5D Platform™ are available, 5D Windows™, optimised to run on a PC with Windows 2000 or Windows XP operating system, and 5D Linux™ taking advantage of the open source Linux operating system.

5D’s software architecture is characterized by a very extensive framework with all basic functionality already implemented, an intuitive object-oriented interface, various levels of complexity to enable “load on demand”, advanced functionality for easy update of hard- and software via plug-ins, life-updates via the internet, cross-platform design and many optimizations to assure high frame rates.
